the token reflection

i can't believe christmas is over already and tomorrow is new year's eve! i get this feeling that the days are getting shorter and none of those astrological scientists watchama-call-its realise it yet.

so. what have i done in 2008? not a whole lot unfortunately. it was a fairly placid, and not to mention, very broke year for me.

2008 summary:
  1. went to krabi, bangkok, cameron highlands, penang, melaka & singapore
  2. jumped industries from advertising to fashion
  3. lived through most of the year without a functional computer
  4. swapped from a PC to my Macbook Pro
  5. learnt to play gin rummy mahjong
  6. freeloaded and went for MTV Asia Awards, X Live & Panic at the Disco
  7. cut my hair short after 9 years of long hair
  8. i voted!
  9. finally started to drive in malaysia!

things i wanted to achieve in 2008 but didn't:
  1. start saving money (this always tops the list every year)
  2. earn more moolah
  3. make more handmade stuff - jewellery, cards, scrapbook, etc.
  4. improve my sense of direction (that's a lost cause!)
  5. travel travel travel (broke broke broke)
  6. experience the big 'O'
  7. start kickboxing again (michael's given up all hope on that)

things i want to achieve in two-oh-oh-nine:
  1. save money!! (haha)
  2. earn more money
  3. re-learn web design
  4. take up pole dancing
  5. experience the big 'O' (i'm going to die not knowing what it's all about!)
  6. travel travel travel
  7. do more creative stuff
it's a little depressing to think that i may be the only one who doesn't have any plans for new year's eve. hopefully a miracle will present itself soon and save the day.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

clash of the clans @ Mist

what started out as a night organised with my cousins to celebrate elaine's soon-to-be wedding, eventually became a night of the two clans - my cousins and alvin's.

thinking that my clan would be the milder bunch turned out to be completely wrong. i guess alcohol really brings out a different side in people. paul soong and paul kheng were throwing funky dance moves i couldn't even keep up with!

i shall put the clan name in brackets so as to make it easier - regardless whether or not that's their actual last name.

brian (lim), michael (lim) & me (song)

me & my stepmum

eu jin (clanless) & alvin (lim)

siew nam & the song clan (l-r) : elaine, paul, stepmum, me, paul ling, pauline, cam, paul kheng, rebecca & patrick

i realised... i'm sadly the only one in the family that can't drink. it only takes a few glasses to send me flying and a couple more to knock me out. =p

i'm cheap like that.

i used to stay at their house alot

lovely family portrait : patrick, rebecca, pauline, paul, paul ling, paul keng & elaine

five bottles of whisky and a bottle of red wine later, i was nicely bidding goodbye to all my cousins as they made a move, happy to stay and dance.

"bye! bye! bye!"

shortly after, alvin pulled me along.
"eh. we're leaving."
"huh? what do you mean? but, the club's not closed yet! what about all the alcohol?"
"the alcohol's finished!!" -_-
"oh. really?"

quite the embarassings.

so we followed my cousins to the mamak. the cousins i had been nicely saying my goodbyes to.

the lim clan's performance was highly disappointing. perhaps our numbers may have been slightly intimidating. or perhaps they were still recovering from christmas.

we took heaps and heaps of photos. i'm too lazy to upload that many, so if you wanna see the rest, they're on FB. =)

christmas chaos

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

in just the blink of an eye, christmas is over.

i managed to do most of my christmas shopping on monday within two and a half hours. talk about speed shopping!

on the eve, we had bbq at viki's place.

beef. lamb. squid. broccoli and cauliflower cheese. awesome mash. chicken wings. squid.

although everyone stuffed themselves, by the end of the night, there was still a whole pile of beef and lamb left over. viki was stressing over having to eat it for breakfast, lunch & dinner for the next week.

so, she packed it all and made everyone take some home. call it a door gift of marinated meat.

christmas day was spent at alvin's aunt fifi's house. her kids just got the WII as a present with only one remote. about ten guy cousins were fighting to get a turn when they decided to run to the mall and buy another remote.

mind you, most of these cousins are over 20!! -_- boys just don't grow up!!

five o'clock, michael was nominated to be santa this year by popular demand. so he had to get dressed up in the suit and play santa, calling everyone's names and giving out presents. this process usually takes about half an hour coz their family is so big.

the night ended with the older cousins drinking very... errmmm... responsibly.

responsible for silly behaviour.

four of them finished about two bottles of whisky and half a bottle of gin in less than two hours.

and it's not quite over yet. tonight is dinner at mili's place featuring last night's leftovers. then off to Mist where the clash of the clans happen.

my cousins vs alvin's cousins. should be interesting...

celebrating the female form

i really want to try pole dancing. and this video is especially inspiring. the amount of strength you need to execute all these moves and still look sensual, i cannot begin to imagine.

you know the pussycat dolls doing the pole dance in the train? well that is NOTHING compared to this!

out of whack

warning: a lot bitching and whining in this post

just a few weeks ago i was hit by the flu. and then bronchitis.

yesterday was a really weird day. i started feeling nauseous. and then i vomitted out a ball of milo and water (i hadn't eaten breakfast). i say a ball, because that's literally what it felt like. it all came out in a liquid ball.

i had a really weird experience in the toilet too. which, i won't write here.

then i started aching all over. shivering. the fever hit. i had to wrap myself in my trustee blanket in the office. and hide my face under the blanket at times. i must've looked like a kid pretending to be in a tent. my colleagues were laughing at me. but that's nothing new.

got home and passed out from 6.30pm.

now i'm hungry and can't keep my food down. probably coz i pretty much didn't eat anything yesterday.

my prescription to myself?

a holiday is much needed.

as i do every year, i put up a wishlist to layan sendiri. i like fantasizing, what can i say.

aside from wishlists, i also plan imaginary holidays. and window e-shopping.

so, layan me for awhile. don't feel obliged to keep it imaginary, though. gifts are more than welcome. =p

birthdays everywhere

blame valentine's day for the numerous birthdays scattered all over the end of november through to december. our parents obviously got busy banging.

hence, i blame valentine's day for the copious amounts of cake i've eaten in the last three weeks. i've had it up to my ears in cake!!

chocolate cake. butter cake. sponge cake. cheesecake.

being 25 means i'm fast approaching the 30 year old mark i have set for myself to achieve certain things. and... by the looks of it, i feel like i might not meet those goals.

my godmother asked me the other day at lunch

'how old are you now? 23?"
-_- "no. i'm 25!"
"oh shit!"
*wince* "yeah, oh shit indeed. thanks for making me feel better."

godmother P is synonymous with great food and style

more than twice my age and she stills glows like a virgin... and i don't think it's just because of La Mer.

my favourite month

i love december. i mean, what's not to love?

there's my birthday. scattered public holidays. christmas. new year's eve. it's basically the most happening month of the year.

i hope you're not expecting an entertaining post here, because it's not going to be one. i'm too tired to think about anything witty to write.

it's been an eventful birthday. a rather fattening one, too.

alvin and i had dinner at el cerdo on friday. we were really looking forward to the awesome spare ribs only to find it was not available. something about their shipment of black spanish pig being held up in thailand.

grilled short ribs

marinated pork shoulder

after dinner, we headed over to Mist in Bangsar. the music was pretty awesome and the company was fantastic. i have no friends, so i have to rely on the Lim clan and my one incestuous cousin to celebrate with me. after several glasses of whisky and a few shots of Sex on the Beach, came the Flaming. i swear they didn't put any baileys in. it was pure Sambuca.

DISGUSTING.

i sucked. i stood. i shoved. i ran. i puked. and puked. and puked.

not the weak blek blek kind of vomit. it was projectile stuff. then i ran back to down more whisky.

he feeds me well

i foresee my downfall in the very-near future

saturday was lunch with my godmother P at C. Club. personally, i wouldn't rush back there anytime soon. the foie gras was good. the forest mushroom soup was good. the duck confit was a winner. the sirloin looked like boarding school food. the lobster pasta just tasted like capsicum and pepper. the shellfish bisque left a bitter aftertaste. for the prices they charge, a 50% hit rate is just not good enough.

i was further spoilt with some shopping courtesy of godmother P. yay!

saturday night, was dinner at tony roma's followed by Transporter 3. my second time watching it. i love hollywood trash.

this afternoon, i had lunch with alvin, bass, jen, mili & cam at Rakuzen. another disappointing meal.

perhaps i've just been plain spoilt. here i am complaining about lobster pasta while children in Africa would be thrilled to even have a loaf of bread. just shoot me with guilt and perspective, and everything is fine again.

a big thank you to everyone who has made my birthday this year a whole lot of fun. much love!

thank you baby, for the mighty mouse. and the drinks. and the food. =)
